Money Talks: This 8-Year-Old Noticed a Friend was Denied a Hot Lunch Due to Lack of Funds, Ends Up Buying Lunch for 295 Kids

Despite the fact at times it feels like the world is regressing, the real fact is that us youngsters, for the most part, are more compassionate, switched on, and tuned in the magic of diversity than ever before.

To celebrate this, we are launching a mini-series called Money Talks, aimed at understanding how our relationship with money can change the world for the better. And there's no better way to kick things off than with this wonderful story that came to light at the end of last year...

Last September a third grader (now fourth grader) from Michigan noticed his friend was denied a hot lunch because he didn't have enough money, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

Heartbroken at the sight of his pal getting handed a dry cheese sandwich rather than a substantial plate of hot food, young Cayden Taipalus went home to his mother and explained his dismay.

Being a kind, intelligent kid, Cayden helped his mom launch a funding website called, “Pay It Forward: No Kids Goes Hungry.” Once the website went live, Cayden called upon family, friends, and neighbours to raise money to pay off debts for his friend’s lunches and things picked up almost instantly.

What's more, Cayden went one step further and undertook a recycling drive so that he could raise a little extra money on his own. A beautiful gesture from such a young man.

After paying off the food deficit, he asked the lunch ladies to add funds into his fellow students' accounts, those who needed money so that they would never have to worry about eating a hot lunch again.

Since starting his initiative, Cayden has raised nearly $42,000, an amount that's supplied hot lunches for more than 300 students. And, he plans to continue his efforts so that no child will ever be denied a hot lunch in the future.

It's easy to get caught up in making money, generating wealth and forget the true power of currency. Channelled positively, the energy of the entrepreneur can change live and make a difference - a concept that Cayden has learned at a young age.

Money makes the world go around indeed. Look out for more from our Money Talks series and for exclusive updates from the Go Billions team, subscribe to our mailing list - and stay one step ahead of the pack.
